The Weights, Measures and Standards Division of the Directorate of Internal Trade, a directorate of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Namibia, consists of the Trade Metrology and Trade Inspections Subdivision, and a License and Standards Subdivision. The former subdivision’s role is to ensure that business in Namibia is conducted in a fair manner.

A Namibian Standards Information and Quality Office (NSIQO), set up under the Directorate of Internal Trade, gained recognition in January 1996 as a correspondent member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Namibia has acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Code of Good Practice for the Preparation, Adoption and Publication of Standards.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry which is the Competent Authority for fish and fishery products, appointed the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) as the official inspection body to certify fish and fishery products earmarked for export, especially to the European Union.
